The recommendations I've seen are not to transplant tomatoes much more than
an inch deeper than they were originally, as the root mass requires oxygen
and will die if too deep. Then the plant won't grow until new roots develop
on the stem. Instead, we plant them horizontally in a trench with only the
top of the plant sticking above ground. We will strip off all the leaves but
the top 2-3 sets...when I've dug some up later to check, there are roots all
along the stem and also the root mass is healthy. Also it helps to water
plants in with a superphosphate solution to promote root growth. If the stem
and leaves are purple, this could indicate a lack of phosphorus, caused by
cold or wet conditions.

hi,
Sorry to hear your toms are not thriving!!
Are they too hot, too cold or need more water?? You could try re-planting
them but much deeper, the stems will root as well. You do say how you
prepared the bed but that may be the key.
I live in England and was interested to know what Jaljeera is and what
chutney's you make.
