Our slugs might be a little whimpy, but they have got a lot of guts. What
they lack in size and stature, they make up in numbers and resilience. Our
slugs readily head for beer, with no hesitation, and slurp themselves into a
sluggish stupor until, alas for them, it is over.
We, too, use "fullers earth" and other solutions. But the best one I have
heard of yet is to go outside, early AM, and STOMP 'em. Of course, I have
yet to try this. I mastered the finger flick technique some years ago when I
found them clinging to a peat box of plants.

Boy, you have wimpy slugs if a little sandpaper will deter them! Our
Oregon slugs take on wood ash, diatomaceous earth, crushed glass,
etc. without a whimper. They are super slimers and just lay down a
nice smooth slime highway over all the above. They do *hate* copper,
however. We get better results with sourdough bait than with beer.
