Good afternoon Mike and All,
I'm enjoying the ocular delights of my garden! I planted everything in
plots and surrounded them with the large rocks from our yard. So
everything is very neat...The herb garden is lovely with nasturtiums
circling dill, basil( purple and green), chives and sage. The borage in
the center grew so tall they fell over as the flowers were just blooming.
I never got to use any of it!!
I also have the bright lights swiss chard, but still have yet to pick it.
It's soon going to be too late, as they are already at least a foot tall!
The tomatoes I started from seed( too early and in my window) were great
until I set them out to harden. I ended up with only one cherry plant.
It's really taken off with the heat in the last three weeks. As are the
carnival peppers- I didn't think they were going to live as they have
only *just* grown to maturity two weeks ago...and all at once, it seems.
The carrots(danvers) and beets have long leaves and are about half grown.
Sweet little babies they are!
All of my onions and scallions are in limbo. The corn(silver queen and
how sweet it is) are pollinating and some have their silk.
Red cabbage is good!
Sweet peas fried in the heat, but my girlies found enough in the early
summer to decide that they were delicious...
My broccoli would have all gone to flower if my neighbor hadn't taught me
what to look for. Here I thought they would get as large as the ones from
the store. HA! This is my first garden too, Mike.
No cauliflower, yet, but the cukes are taking over the bottom 20 feet!
Thank goodness I got all the watercress out in time. Peppery little
buggers...Now I'll have to watch the beans and make sure they don't get
overtaken. Same neighbor suggested a tomato trellis.
What else? Oh! Lettuces were good! I had romaine and red leaf as well as
mesclun. They did really well in between the corn. I had thought the corn
would grow faster and protect them from the sun, but the lettuce did well
anyway. Time to plant some more!
And all along the perimeter are the different varieties of marigolds.
Yellow, pale yellow, orange and reds...I had to smile proudly at what a
beautiful garden I had raised!
