How about bending them. If they are staked, maybe push
one stake East and the one next to it to the West etc. Or if they are
caged, tilt the cages away from each other to create more room at
the top. I of course have no idea if this will work but it is
fun to experiment with someone else's labor and veggies.

P.S. Does anyone know what type of paint I can use to
paint my green tomatoes, blue, to win a bet?
