Hi Everyone,Sherry,
My friend is growing broccoli di rabe (also called rabini). She wants to
know if she should pick it when it is only leaves or wait until there are
flowers. In the grocery store it is sold with the flowers. She could also
use some recipe suggestions.
I have never grown rabini but my sister-in-law is Italian and she has both grown it and looked for it in the larger supermarkets. It's Italian broccoli and can be cooked as in any recipe for broccoli. My favorite way when she prepares it is steamed and topped with a fresh grating of parmesan cheese. I've always had it with the flowers like broccoli only smaller.
I am growing yellow swiss chard for the first time. Has anyone tried this?
I have quite a few of the "bright lights" Swiss chard plants in my garden. I have yellow, red, pink, lavender and white. They are all delicious steamed and topped with butter and a splash of vinegar. I've frozen some already and the stems are especially good.
