I believe they use leaves of some of the hydrangas but more as a as a
tea substitute - possibly h. aspera or h. macrophylla

Sweet corn - harvest complete. Had a great spring season for corn with
"Breeder's Choice".

Tomatoes - began picking a month ago. Still picking and have lots of
green ones on the Big Beef but it's unlikely they'll make it with
daytime temperatures now consistantly above 100 deg.

Golden Crookneck Squash - usually a great producer but poor this year
due to poor pollination. Male blossoms perished before females blossoms
set. I think it may be due to the big temperature swings from week to
week. Anybody have thoughts on this?

Japanese Eggplant - Began picking last week. lots of fruit and still
lots of blossoms.

Green Beans - just starting to blossom. About 1 month later than usual
due to later planting and below "normal" temperatures.

Peppers - Yolo Wonder Bells, NuMex Big Jim, Hungarian Wax, Cayenne,
Habenero, Chiltepines. Looks like a good year. Been picking bells and
hungarian wax for 3 weeks. Big Jim and Chiltepine plants now in their
third year.

Swiss Chard - Fordhook Giant and red Rhubarb. Still edible but getting
kinda bitter.

Muskmelon - crop failure. Two varieties, neither germinated, suspect
birds because seed disappeared.

Winter squash - Table Queen Acorn, nice size with healthy vines.
Butternut still pretty small but look okay.

Harvesting of spring crops usually ends by the end of June with the
exception of peppers and eggpalt. Am putting it all on drip tape or
emitters to help the hardier plants thru the summer.
