Re: String Beans over?? Reply

     B,
I don't know if anybody replied to you or not. I'm not any kind of
veggie expert but here's what I think..

Pole beans (any string bean that needs support and grows 4-8 ft) will
usually keep producing all summer as long as you keep picking. If you
let a lot of beans mature and then picked all at once, there might be
a delay before they begin producing again. If you grew bush beans,
they may be done for the year (I've never grown bush types).

Tomatoes, peppers and squash will also continue producing all summer.
Again, I think picking the ripe veggies encourages more production.
There is sometimes a lull in the hottest part of the summer though.
I've never grown eggplant, but it is closely related to the tomato. I
would think that it would also continue all summer.

I planted (and trellised) lots of string beans. I got a great crop for maybe
a couple of weeks. Decided I love string beans. Now, almost nothing. Will
there be another round, or would it be better to tear these out and plant
another crop? I have more than enough time in the season, but that's a lot
of work if it's not necessary.

Do string beans get a second cycle? Or several cycles? I thought they'd
produce over the season.

What about other vegetables, like squash, tomatoes, eggplant, peppers?
