What you say makes sense.  I just caught a short blurp of info about peppers
on the gardening channel.  They said that most growers do not let their
peppers ripen (turn red) because that stops the production of new peppers.
By regular picking the peppers, the plant keeps producing.  I ahve also
noticed that my pole beans keep on producing.  I used to only plant bush
beans until I married my husband and he insisted on pole beans.  I was used
to getting two pickings off my bush beans (the last one was basically a
clean up of remainiing beans) and then pulling them out of the ground.  I'm
sure if my growing season was longer some of my other veggies would keep
producing. Usually the frost gets them first.
