Growing in my garden in Los Angeles, California (I was reading E. Coast
garden books and didn't realize we can grow year 'round, so I think I started
later than necessary):
Any other So Cal gardeners who'd like to exchange information?
Tomatoes, all kinds -- formed but not ripe yet -- taking a long time.
Eggplant, all kinds - starting to set fruit
peppers - all kinds -- lots of fruit but not yet ripe
green, purple and wax beans - pole produced and seem done now, bush were
disappointing producers, may be done.
zuchini and scalloped squash -- harvesting slowly. What types will give me
bigger yields?
melons (cantaloupe, honeydew, ambrosia, crenshaw, sugar baby . . . ) -- some
vines just starting to form fruit
winter squash (acorn, kabocha, butternut, buttercup, spaghetti, carnival,
dumpling, volunteer . . .) have harvested some unknown volunteer type that
got an extra-early start (good to remember for next year!) and some
spaghetti; others are almost done. Not getting high yields -- could this be
from bad soil? Thinking about planting a second round.
Sunflowers -- in all stages, including played out
strawberries -- done
corn -- not too successful. Didn't get very tall . . .
Lots of herbs
