Monica--
This is unresearched and strictly off the top of my head, don't know what
precisely they are but this sounds like a fair candidate for Bt--Bacillus
thuringensis--which as far as I know is rather non-toxic to children,
adults and furry creatures, although no good for caterpillars, fish etc.
There are quite a few brands, you water the foliage thoroughly, and
re-apply after a rain, wait a certain interval before using the
produce--gosh, it's been a couple years since I used the stuff with good
results for a cole crop caterpillar infestation. I forget the gory details
but might be worth checking out.
Hope it helps.
