Re: Garlic issue


Helen,

Let it go until late summer and then dig it up and use it fresh.  Garlic
damaged this late in the season will rarely mature well.

There are two problems with using grocery store garlic:

1.  The variety will be California Early. Period.  That's all they sell
in a grocery store.  There are hundreds of garlic varieties, many of
them much better for a cold-winter climate, than C/E.  A local farmer's
market may have someone selling more varieties to choose from.

2.  The best seed bulbs are not sold as food.  And they are not
certified disease-free, so there is some tiny element of risk.
