The pods start out flat and then fill out as the peas form. So, when the
pods look lumpy, they could be ready. The best way to test peas is to pick a
pod, shell it in the garden, and taste them! If they're ready, you'll
probably 'test' more than one. ; ) The one thing you don't want to do is
let them go too long. Just ripe peas are great; over ripe peas are tastless.
