identify beetle?

Please help me figure out what kind of beetle is eating my birdhouse gourds
and daturas...it is about 1/4-1/2 inch long...yellow and black stripes that
go from head to back....orange tummy..and GROSS orange guts....when spotted
they fall to ground.....i don't think they r potato beetles...as they r too
thin...any ideas?
Well, I am going back out to garden with jar of bleach water in hand......
