Here in Phoenix, I tried it both ways (hilling up with dirt or covering with
straw). They were garden-grown (not in containers). Just
finished digging all the potatoes this weekend. I got about 3 times the
yield from the ones in dirt versus those under straw. Possibly the straw
did not keep the tubers cool enough - may not be a problem in cooler
climates. -Olin
