Re: GreenHouse Tomato Question

Duncan, I went to the hydrofarm presentation in FL several years ago.
These all-year long greenhouses use growbags or fiberglass blocks for
rooting and use a fertilization system using timed nutrient flow.

If you want it to be seasonal rather than year round, 3-5 gallon pots
should work. You will need a climber system (the all weather greenhouses
let the plant climb a rope which is lowered as the plant matures and only
the topmost 5-6 feet actually have leaves and fruit and the remaining stem
is allowed to fall to the ground. You can end up with 20 feet or more of
stem.

When we were in Scottsdale Arizona several years ago, I planted tomatoes in
September, protected them from the few below 30 nights and by the time we
pulled them in December of the following year, they were about 15 feet long
(long enought to hide the 6 ft rattlesnake I found coiled up behind them
when they were pulled).
