A month or two ago I planted some well sprouted (bought 'em to eat,
not plant...oh well) new potatoes. I used to do this with sprouted
store-bought potatoes, but haven't done so for 15 to 20 years...thus,
I can't remember much about the process other than I used to end up
with a lot of tasty taters outta something most people would throw
down the garbage disposer.
The potato plants have flowered and produced fruit...don't recall
seeing fruit on my potato plants in the past. I assume the fruit
is harmful to eat and would like to make sure my grandchildren aren't
tempted when they visit this coming 4th of July. Can I just remove
the fruit and discard or is the fruit necessary for the production
of potatoes. I could put up a chicken wire barrier. Any ideas...?
