In the large hydrophonic farms, they use ropes and a pulley and wrap the
rope around the plant in a spiral as it grows up (similar to commercial
tomato growers but much more rope). In a year, the plant can grow up to
30-40 feet. Vines that we wintered over in the shade in Scottsdale, were
25 feet long when they were finally pulled and these were allowed to spread
on the ground. Realize that as the plant grows up, you will end up with
the main vine laying on the ground but without leaves.
