Re: bacterial wilt problem

Katie,

It's unusual that you'd have a disease problem affecting so many types of
vegetables. I have a feeling that it might be something else in the
brought-in soil - some other type of contamination. Also, did your original
soil get compacted when the new soil was brought in?

Even though your climate is hot & humid, you would still need the plastic to
do a proper sterilization. I would do that sterilization and then
re-inoculate the soil with some really good quality compost that will
introduce beneficial microorganisms back into your soil. The sterilization
takes about 2 weeks.

The compost will really be the key and if you don't have a good supply, I'd
let that spot in the garden rest for a bit. Try growing a spring/summer
cover crop like buckwheat or phacelia and then turn it under.

It must be frustrating to see such a productive garden be affected like
this.
