Hi all,
Thanks for your suggestions regarding the leeks. I am glad I asked about
blanching.
Since mine were already in the ground and pencil thin, I went out today and
wrapped a 6 inch wide piece of plastic bender board around the leek patch and
piled about 2-3 inches of fine mulch around them and will continue doing this
as they grow. With careful mounding, I suspect I can go to about 9 inches of
mulch to blanch them.
Next time, I will probably try the burying in soil method rather than mulch.
Thanks again, I look forward to my first crop, including cooking them with
asparagus as recommended.
From relatively frost-free so. calif. , Janet.
