As a Texas okra grower and eater I must inform those of you not acquainted
with southern cooking that okra doesn't have to be slimy. The only way to
eat it is fried. Slice it and drop it in a brown paper bag in which you've
put a mixture of half corn meal and half flour with a bit of salt and
pepper. Shake it until the okra is well coated, then fry it in a pan with
shortening. Keep cooking until you see more brown than green (all brown or
even black is okay). Great stuff. Eat the leftovers cold like popcorn.
