Rototilling

Hey people...I just baught a sears rear tine rototiller and when im roto 
tilling it keeps on trying to go back into the row i just tilled...in the 
book it says to till every other row but if i do that then im going to be 
backing the soil with my feet as im tilling   so how can i till so itll stay 
in the same row and not pack it?   thank you people and have a nice day
