Hello Dawn,
Yes there are several ways. I use 3 of them.
I compost indoors with a worm bin (vermicomposting) all table scrapes go
in here.
A good web site to go to to learn more about this type of system is
located at:
http://gnv.fdt.net/~windle/
The next system i use is to collect leaves (I have a bagger mower).
Come fall I place my leaves after I run them over and collect them in my
bagger mower. I even have a lawn company dump a large truck load of
leaves off. I have two large holding bins made for this purpose In which
I store the leaves I don't use right away over winter. I work leaves into
the garden in the fall too to increase the organic matter and tilth of my
soil.
I have a 30 gallon barrel type composter that you can buy through a
garden magazine. Once a week when I mow my lawn I place a 6 inch layer of
shredded leaves from my holding bins and I dump two bags of grass
clippings on top of that. I repeat the process until I fill my composter.
I water it all and screw the top on. Within a week the compost inside
will have shrunk by at least half. I then remove the compost (my barrel
has no bottom and I slip it off).
I turn the pile inside out and water it and add greensand and rock
phosphate and lime. I cover this pile with black plastic and replace my
now empty barrel and add a layer of leaves, and as I mow the lawn I
repeat the process again.
When the next week comes I take the black plastic off my 2 week old pile
and take it to a NEW Zealand style bin I have that has a cover and dump
it inside this. I water it if it needs it and place the cover on (this
bin is a box 3 foot square.)
I go back to my barrel empty the contents, repeat the entire thing all
over again (c:

I asked GOD for all things, that I might enjoy life.
HE gave me life that I might enjoy all things.
