Yahoooo! we have finally had a decent break in the weather, and my tiller
man tells me tonights the night! I have a couple of questions before I go
make a fool of myself. I have my garden layed out to where the rows run
west to east. I did this because I was told the larger crops might shade
the smaller if they ran north to south. My aunt and grandmother have their
garden rows running north to south and have never had trouble. So being a
first time gardener, should I keep my plans of rows running west to east?
Also, my ground seems a little rocky. If the tiller shows it is rockier
than I expected, should I still have him till and then used the raised bed
method? I really want this garden to work.
Next question..... should we mulch during this tilling session? We have a
mulch pile from last year made up of dead grass and leaves along with a
little horse manure and we also have access to rabbit poop. I have also
heard that in colder climates (like mine) you can mulch with black
plastic....is this OK?
Thanks again for putting up with my stupid questions!
