Hiya,
There are many herbs and such that help repel invaders. I don't know too
many, but had a book from the library on the topic. I planted marigolds
in the four corners of my patch and some along the long sides. Mint is
another good one to put by tomatoes. But was that companion planting? Or
pest control?? I've forgotten all the reasons I picked out what I did
this year. A good ol' dog with loud barking capabilities is good for
keeping animals at bay, too.
For the big pests, this year I put up an 8' mesh to keep out the deer
and good ol' chicken wire around the bottom for the bunnies and such. I
was a good girl this time and sunk it about 1". However, I witnessed some
squirrels running from the garden one day...don't have proof they were
in there, but the odds were good. I'm sure they can run right up the 8'
oak stakes.
Michelle-happily diggin' and plantin' today!
