Hi- I am new at vegetable gardening. I have done many many flower gardens
etc. but this is my first year with vegetables. I have a few questions. I
apologize in advance for my veggie ignorance :-)). I live in central Maryland
(zone 7?)
1. how do you mulch a veg garden? can you use any type of mulch?
2. We have had 14 days of straight rain !!!! I have tomatoes, cucs, broccoli,
some squash and lettuce planted. Will these be ruined and how do I tell?
Should I pull up damaged plants and start over?
3. What is the best way to get rid of SLUGS without damaging the vegetable
plants?
4. Should I worry that I have an over over abundance of worms in this garden?
Some look dead and then there are a lot of tiny (baby?) worms. IS this normal?
5. When should I fertilize?
6. What type of maggot eats the roots of broccoli and how do I tell if I have
it?
7. Has anyone had any success growing watermelon and canteloupe from seed?
Again, I apologize for my ignorance. I am VERY excited about vegetable
gardening and can't wait to see some results. I thank you in advance for any
advice or expertise that may help me.
I hope that I can give back some tips some day!!!
