RE: hello from Sydney

Hi, David.

Glad to see someone close to home (relatively) on the list. We could do with
a bit of your rain over in Adelaide; we've just had one of the lowest April
rainfalls on record and I've recorded a total of only 68mm (less than 3in)
for the first 4 months of this year.

I've only recently started to grow chillies. I have a couple of plants which
supply most of my needs. The seeds were given to me by a friend a couple of
years ago. I put a few plants at the edge of the veggie patch and just left
them to do their thing. Two survived and for the last two summers I've had
about 20 chillies per plant. At this time of year, they start to go dormant
as the cold nights have arrived, but around spring they seem to pick up
again and by November will be flowering well. I don't know the variety, but
I suspect they might by jalapeno (or something similar).
By the way, you might like to try Eden Seeds at Gympie in Queensland (Phone
1800 188 199); they have at least a dozen different varieties
(open-pollinated). I've ordered two or three interesting ones from Eden to
try next season. Also, our local organic green-grocer has a large variety of
unusual chillies, most of which are open-pollinated, and the seeds from
these could be used; there may be such a source near you.
