RE: Tomato Varieties

Kitt,

I'm sure you know that tomatoes will root along their stem, so if you bury
them a foot or so, you can still use the wall o water. I guess it really
depends on how far down you can dig in your soil. You can also dig a trench
and just leave part of the tom above ground, but I've never tried it that
way. I harden my plants off for a week in a morning sun only location that
is not windy. I always start on a weekend because I'm always afraid they'll
keel over as soon as they see sun. It never happens, but after nurturing
the darn things from seed to plant, you get kinda attached....

Subject: Tomato Varieties

I came home from a kitchen garden class in February with a variety of tomato
seeds. These are all indeterminate types, I'm told.

Sun Gold
Eva's Purple Ball
Prudens Purple
Flame' (I think this is how it's spelled. Pronounced "flom-ay")
Black Prince

All these plants are something like two feet high now, and flowering, still
in
their pots. I've been taking them out for a couple hours each day and
putting
them in the shade. How soon can I start putting them in the sun?

Any advice on hardening off would be appreciated. I was going to use Walls
of
Water, but I think the plants are too big already, especially if I need to
stake
them. The last frost date is less than a week away, anyway.
