In Alaska folks used to hang Irish spring (unwrapped) to keep the moose
away from the Mountain ash and the fruit trees---sometimes it worked, and
sometimes it didn't, but it sure was a funny sight sticking out of the snow.

where the deer stay mostly in the hills
but the raccoons loved the plum tree, and the squirrels taste the tomatoes
