No frost here, yet, in Zone 6, New York. I am waiting for it to finish
everything here, too, like the LAST few tomatoes, and also, to zap the
canna's and 4 o clocks. I thought I'd try to save these this year. does
anybody have any suggestions on this?
I watched a squirrel try to take away a tiny sunflower seed head that I
left for animals. It was pulling at the stalk mightily, and then it
would gnaw on the stem for a little while. Then, back to the tug o war.
Every now and then it would stop and eat some of the seeds that fell out
during the struggle. Finally, it disconnected the head, and dragged it
about 3 feet,a and all of a sudden, a cat emerged from under our deck and
pounced. The squirrel zoomed up a tree, and left his treasure on the grass.
The cat bounded off, and the squirrel stayed in the tree, looking
disconcerted, flicking his tail, like a fat lady fanning herself after
some big exertion, and finally, I had to go do something else. Later, the
squirrel and the sunflower seeds were gone.
