Its spring here in sunny Sydney and warming up. I have grown quite a lot of
vegetable in the past and have experimented on some newies.
Bak Choi: easy to grow all year and harvest in 4-6 weeks. Used in Chinese
stir-fries etc
Coriander: A versatile herb that I use in all curry dishes. Can be used in
salads or cut fine and mixed with yoghurt.
Radish: easy to grow
Okra: I have tried for some years now but still to master the art of a good
crop of Okra. So far I just manage to grow enough but expect more out of the
effort one has to put in. Has anyone had success with okra? Maybe the Ph of
the soil is what is causing my problems. A very tasty vegetable and quite
expensive when available in markets.
Snake beans: Have grown plenty of these as they are quite easy to grow and do
not need much attention. A good vegetable when cooked with onions and a little
olive oil.
Chillies: A variety ranging from hot to mild. Last year I had a bumper crop
as they do not need much attention, just water and manure. Can be used in
almost any salad, sauce or curry and also pickled. Can be frozen for a year or
two and used when required. Be careful not to plant hot with mild unless you
want a hybrid chilli.
Yes, I will be growing these again, but I need some help with okra.
