Some people grow seeds in toilet roll tubes i.e.the cardboard tubes from
toilet rolls. In "rootrainers" the tubes are made by the shape in
between a sheet of thin, stiff of plastic folded in two.Several of these
are held together in sets in a frame. At planting time they are opened
up and the plant is carefully planted out with virtually no disturbance.
to grow on. There are several sizes available. They are reusable. I will
see if they are exported.
I grow many of my crops by raising in modules
and pots, even beetroot. Carrots may not be successful but a
stump-rooted variety in small clusters might be worth a try. It's a good
way of cheating the seasons and overcoming the difficulties of a clay
soil.
