Strawberries

I need help with my strawberries. I made a pyramid using concentric
circles of landscape edging, filling it with a combination of peat and
garden soil. I then ran a 1/2 inch black poly pipe up one side to the
top and capped it off. I connected the other end to my timed soaker hose
system.
Then, at each level, I Tee'd in one of those skinny little flexible
hoses and ran it all the way around each tier. I then cut in those
inline drip irrigators about every 12 inches. I then put Preen down
after conferring with the list.
I bought 25 strawberry plants from Henry Fields, Sweet Delight.
 (along with the
3 grape special, I will post more about that at a later date) and
spaced them out around the pyramid. I hoped that they would
send out runners to fill in all the bare spots.
They did much better than expected. They completely filled
the pyramid. They sent out runners like in a Sci Fi movie. I now
have a wonderful pyramid, full of strawberry plants, BUT NO STRAWBERRIES!
Not a one. Never had flowers.
My question now is, how do I make them produce strawberries
next year? We have had our first frost this year and some of the
leaves are starting to turn color for the winter. Should I cover
the pyramid with something for the winter? Jutting up out
of the garden like it does, I'm afraid a deep freeze may freeze it
all the way through. Will this hurt the plants? The Ft. Laramie
strawberries make it through the winter just fine, but then, they are
supposed to, according to the catalog.
In another part of my property, I transplanted last years FT Laramie
strawberries from the garden to a sunny but exposed spot. They
did well, producing many strawberries until the deer ate all of the
plants.
Thanks for your help and patience.
