Greetings to all,
Up until now I had only read of the occurrence of variant fruits on such
things as open pollinated squash (on a single vine). But now I have seen
it for myself on an open-pollinated pepper plant...
I checked very carefully to be sure the fruits were on a mutual
stem, which they were. They were of the same color but VERY different in
shape and size/weight.Since I have many other plants of this same
variety,I'm very familiar with its normal, mature appearance.
I am fascinated with this event and wonder if others had ever
encountered this as well.I have gardened many years, many of those with
Open Pollinated varieties but had never witnessed first hand until
now.Perhaps some "expert"among us could give the scientific explaination
of the hows and whys of this.If so please do,as I am curious to say the
least.
Hope everyones season was a bountiful one.
