I'll take it as read that you dont want to hurt your squirrels, so what we
are looking for is a frightener of some sort. What I found most
effective against cats, who used my nice friable soil as a loo, was
to string a line of CD disks, the ones you get free in mags with
multicoloured surfaces, over the garden just clear of the tallest
plants. The wind swings them about and they flash and twinkle. It certainly sent the
moggies off!! Even on calm days they flash. Now I dont think
squirrels are nocturnal, so you should be okay!! Try it anyway.
