Re: my garden here in Wales

Hi Alan and all,
I know what its like to start out with a clay soil. Its taken me 25
odd years to produce the rich, friable soil I have now. Digging and
double digging, composting and leaf moulding. Its been hard work but
worth it. In the early days, before I made my own, I used to get
wagon loads of leaf mould from our local woods and buy compost and
peat from mail order. I do not use peat these days for many reasons.
Of course I have never had more than a small garden to sort out, a
large area like your smallholding must be very hard work.

With regards to the CD cat scarers. The ones you want are those with
a sort of hologram thingy on both sides. They must be multicoloured
so that when they turn in the wind they give off a seies of coloured
flashes which really seem to frighten the mogs. I tie about 10 or so
on a line and tie it over my patch above the plants. Anyway it works
for me. Dogs are the best scarers, but in their zeal to get at the
cats, they tend to trample all over!!!

Cheers for now, Dave in Pudsey.
