Re: Shrub suggestions

I have two suggestions:

1. Pieris - there are a few species and a fair number of cultivars that
range in size. These evergreen shrubs look good all year and often have
something interesting happening to them. The flower buds are colourful
during the winter, then they flower (that is happening now), next most of
them have new growth in various shades of red, and finally, the seedpods
look like bunches of small pale green grapes. At that point, I break them
off so that they don't actually produce seeds.

2. Skimmia - another all-year evergreen, though quite a lot shorter than
your suggested size. I have two ( a male and female) by my front door in
a very shady spot. Right now the area is filled with the perfume of the
flowers. The female plant is still colourful with bright red berries that
have been there all fall and winter. This is one berry that no bird seems
to touch.
