Hi Susan,
I think someone suggested Viburnum dilatatum 'Erie' as an option.
It's a fine shrub and an excellent choice (it was featured as one of
the top 10 winter berry plants in the December? edition of 'The American
Gardener', which is published by the American Horticulture Society).
You might also want to consider some of the other viburnum
cultivars like Viburnum plicatum forma tomentosum 'Mariesii'.
Other possibilities include many of the Amelanchiers, Aronia
arbutifolia 'Brilliantissima', Clethra alnifolia (or one of the
cultivars like 'Ruby Spires'), Disanthus cercidifolius (fall
color only, but oh, what fall color), Ilex verticillata 'Winter
Red' (mostly just for winter fruit), Itea virginica 'Henry's Garnet',
Pieris japonica 'Mountain Fire', or Skimmia japonica.
That's about all that I can think of... I'm running out of steam.
Chris
