Re: Prune Red-twigged Dogwood Bush

<< I have a one-year old red-twigged dogwood bush which is about 2 1/2'
high. Many branches/twigs/stems are brilliant red and I have read that
it is new wood that turns this red color in winter. When and how much
should I trim or prune to get this effect next year? >>

It is recommended to cut it back to 4 inches every other year before new
growth starts. (Here in zone 6 that would be early March.) This give the
best twig color because current season's wood has the best color, but it does
diminish the flowering because the plant puts its energy into growth. If it
were mine, I would let it grow this year and then next March cut it back.
