Privacy Hedge

I recently moved into a new house. The back of my lot is lined with trees,
but the rest of the yard is open . I would like to create a “private area” in
the back with the trees on one side and an informal hedge on two other sides
(and lots of perennials inside the border like butterfly bush and coneflower
for the birds and butterflies). I am looking for something about 10’-15’
tall, evergreen, and nature friendly (berries etc.). I was planning on using
blue holly (maybe China Girl & Boy), spacing them about 6’ apart, but at 30$
a pop and about 14 needed for the two sides, that’s $420 plus. That’s more
than I have right after the move. Does any one have any suggestions? I want
the hedge to be pretty much self sufficient, I’m pretty informal in general,
but I want a year ‘round area where I can sit, enjoy nature, and not be
bothered by neighbors or other distractions. I live in the Annapolis, MD area
(zone 7?).
