I've been interested in any responses, too. But for a different reason.
I'm starting a maze this year and I'm interested in ideas on different
shrubs. This is more of a 'nature walk' maze, composed of tall grasses and
shrubbery, with a collection of birdhouses scattered through it. Someone
earlier mentioned mixed deciduous and evergreen shrubs; exactly what I'm
planning, along with the grasses. The space I have to work with is a 300 X
200 foot lawn that I'm sick of mowing (I have over 6 acres). On the outside
perimeter of the maze I'm putting in perennial beds. I'll let you know how
it all works out in about 10 years. ; ) In the meantime I'm in overdrive
looking for different and interesting shrubs.
By all means, look into the Viburnums. I've got quite a few and I'm very
happy with them. Good foliage, some have fragrant flowers, and many set
fruit that the birds love.
After an unfortunate "sporting accident" that involved a Holly, I'm not
putting any in. Nor am I replacing the one I (gleefully) cut down.
