I'm near St. Louis, in zone 6. Sweet autumn clematis seedlings are certainly
common here. I never planted them, mine blew over from a neighbors yard. I
find babies all over my garden every spring from her plants, even though I
deadhead mine.
Other gardeners here report the same experience. The seeds can travel quite a
distance.
I'm in a rush now, but when I get a few minutes, I'll look up the germination
requirements. Perhaps they are not being met where you are. Or perhaps due to
wind direction and the situation of your plant, or mowing and mulching
practices or whatever, it just hasn't happened in your yard. Just be happy
you can enjoy this wonderful plant without the problem! --Janis
