Re: tree damage

If your father has the resources,  it might be worth the $150 or more it would
cost to hire a good certified arborist to take a look.  I am sure there are
some good ones in Denver.  I'll bet someone on this list can recommend one.
It does sound like there is no hope for this tree, but trees that are healthy
and not stressed prior to an accident sometimes display amazing abilities to
recouperate against all odds.

The arborist can also tell you the fair market value of the tree, which for
this one should be a small fortune.  If the driver has insurance, and the tree
dies, your father should get fair compensation.  I wouldn't trust the
insurance company to set the value of the tree.  Even if the arborist can not
save the tree, he/she can give you documentation of the tree's value, and that
could more than compensate for his/her fees.  Good luck.  Please let us know
