Re: deciduous conifer

Mary;
    We live in zone 6, in southeastern Missouri and I have a bald cypress.
It has grown rapidly from just a seedling I bought from the Missouri
Conservation Department. It is truly a beautiful tree and doesn't mind the
cold or freeze. I think the most important aspect is the moisture but here
in Missouri we do have enough rainfall to keep them going. I haven't watered
it except a couple of times in the past when the weather turned dry for 3 or
4 weeks. I have it planted in pure clay so it stays fairly damp. It is one
of the last trees to lose its fronds and one the latest ones to show new
growth in the spring. I planted it in 1994 as a 1 foot seedling in a pot and
let it grow a couple of years then put it in the ground and now it is about
12 feet or so tall. I love it and would highly recommend it. They get about
80 feet tall eventually and have a 25 foot spread so give it plenty of room.
