We are getting a lot of flack from our neighbors to encourage us to prune our fruit trees now. They say that "you have to prune before the sap comes up from the roots." Can anyone explain what is going on biologically? I assume they mean that when the trees come out of domancy the water and nutrients will move up into the buds. Does it harm the tree to prune just before bud break? What about after? Thanks for the help.
