Hi Brian,
Thanks. You are right ~ they all root very easily, so a florist's shop is
an excellent idea. It certainly has worked for pussy willows.
I realized as soon as I hit the send button on the previous posting that I
was _really_ referring to salix sachalinensis. Rather than being contorted
it has flattened curled branches and looks as if several branches have
grown together. Ah, confusion. Where would I be without.
Doesn't mean, of course, that I wouldn't like a matsudana 'tortuosa'.

If this is the same as the Corkscrew Willow branches that many florists
sell, they and in fact most Willows are really easy to root from
cuttings. Check out a shop near you and give it a try for $3.00 or so
you can get a 3-4' piece that will root readily and cost way less than
one from a nursery in a pot. Check if they might have some older ones
that might already have roots started on them, they may be beyond the
point where a florist could sell them but be just perfect for your
purposes. If you need instructions I will be happy to provide them. Next
time you visit your friends that grow varieties you like, take along
your pruning shears.
