Re: Transplanting seedlings...when?

Hmmmm....well, if they were mine, they would be in pots outside in
morning sun where I could keep an eye on them to make sure they were
watered. Potting up as they needed it....keep an eye on the drainage
holes in the pot and pot up as soon as you see a sign of any roots.

You would need to harden them off to the heat, sun and wind by
putting them in about full shade for a week or so and then gradually
introducing them to some sun....even shade tolerant or loving plants
like a bit of morning sun. Your Callicarpa and rose would really
like some sun when they got used to it.

You could put them in a nursery bed, too at 6" to 10". I have done
this, but prefer to keep babies in pots under my eye any more as my
holding area is not one I go to very often and I've lost things from
not having them under daily observation. If you can provide a
nursery area that you will visit daily, they would probably be better
off in the ground than in pots.

Again, you'd need to harden them off before you planted them out. If
you do not have a place to winter them over where the temps would
remain around 40F, they would be better off if you put them in a
nursery bed NOW....while there is time for them to get established
there and make some root growth before winter. They all need a
winter dormant period, which is hard to provide in normal house
temperatures and probably even in your basement.

Am assuming your babies are all in individual pots at this point?

As far as I can see, the only advantage to keeping them inside under
lights is that they are likely to not be exposed to the assorted
critters and insects who can make life interesting for
them....however, they will have to be exposed to them some day, so I
figure they might as well get used to it from an early age:-)
