Mine sprouts from the roots in adjoining beds too and I cut those off as
well. The only pruning I've ever done to the tree itself is a few suckers at
the base and the weeping branches that touch the ground. Mine is 12 years old
and quite magnificent, but I've got to get those branches off the ground
before the mower gets them.
