Re: weeping cherry


Hi M.C.--

I have a weeping cherry that has the "weeping" part grafted at the top of
a 5 foot trunk. What seems to work for me is to ruthlessly cut off any
growth at all that comes from below that graft union--cut it flush with
the trunk--, since it does not weep and will quickly overwhelm the
ornamental that's been grafted on. This thing suckers badly too so cut
off all suckers. As for the top part, I do nothing except remove any dead
or broken branches and it has bloomed beautifully for a number of years.
