Hmmm, I have been lucky I guess as I have taken many cuttings and they
all seem to work fine. I take a cutting about 1' long, just below a
node and remove the lower 2 pairs of leaves and any flowers or fruit.

Dip in #1(softwood) 0.1% IBA rooting hormone powder, shake off the
excess and set into regular potting mix usually about 4 cuttings to a
small pot trying to get 2 pairs of nodes into the soil. Then I water
and cover the whole thing with a plastic bag and set it into a bright
shady spot out of direct sunlight.

I have been propagating this plant this way since it started to grow
again this spring and it seems to work well regardless of where the
cutting was taken from (softwood/semi hardwood). Be sure that once
roots have formed and you want to pot them on you, gradually harden
them off from the humid enviornment of the plastic bag.

Another method I experimented with was layering and that worked well
too but I find that the stem cuttings are easier, faster and you can
get more of them done at one time. I just took another bunch of
cuttings yesterday and I will try to remember to let you know how long
they take to root.

Give it another try, good luck.
