I have a very well established plant, maybe 5 years old.
It would take over the entire section of the garden if I let it.
Flowering time is quite evident for me as it attacts hords of
tiny bees. I hear the loud hum everytime I leave the house
in daylight. The flowers are visually noticible but would be
hard to spot from very far away. Anyway, despite heavy
flowering the past 3 years, last year was the 1st time I had berries.
The years before the berries formed but did not mature. I have the
theory that there has to be be sufficiant water for the berries to mature
and ripen. The 2 years before last were very dry. Last year
was more moist. All years were warm enough. Time was
not an issue as the immature berries shrivelled long before
cold weather arrived.

I think I may like the fact that the berries don't usually mature. This
year a couply of varigated seedlings showed up. I have read stories
about the invasive nature of Ampelopsis in various parts of the country.
I don't need any more weeds.

I also have a second plant in a partly shaded woodland. This second
plant is much less vigorous and I am not aware that it has ever flowered
or set fruit. My guess is that it needs more light.
